Is it harder for people that do not understand Arabic to read and memorize the Quran?
I think it’s harder for me…the imam said because I don’t speak in Arabic at all. But I am learning it…and my imam says I read it like I know how to speak it..lol.
Not really. It’s a great miracle of the Qur’an, that Muslims of different languages are able to memorise the whole Qur’an perfectly even though they do not speak Arabic. I have witnessed this myself. It took me just under 2 years to memorise the whole of the Qur’an, and some of the Arab students in my class took much longer.
I think to speak Arabic it isn’t a piece of cake, i don’t read Arabic but i read it in english, i have a bit problem with memorize it. But Insha’Allah i will.
Uhh.. I’d think understanding something before reading and memorizing it is typical.. but you could read and memorize the Qur’an and not understand any of it.. which I don’t think is the point.
No not really. if you keep practicing and reading as good as you can you might find it really easy. You should also make duaa and ask Allah to help you. And then you might get read it like you can read like your arabic. You should also try Quran tapes and the internet to help you. Well i hope you get better inshallah. and Ramadan mubarak.
Why memorize something you don’t understand? If God wanted his followers to mindlessly repeat his word, he would have made his revelations to african grey parrots!
It’s written down, and it’s not going anywhere. You don’t need to memorize it. That’s why man invented writing!
yes and no
before i used to learn Quran verses phonetically
now I know Arabic quite well Im always make mistakes with ayahs e.g
is it talaamoon (you will know) or yalamoon (you will know) and also about huroof jar (prepositions) and the endings of words (is it mansub, marfoo etc) so actually make more mistakes
maybe am getting old
but the hilwa of the Quran in knowing some Arabic is sweeter than all of that
be4 i learned arabic i memorized 5 juz’s without understanding it
but now that do understand its much more precious and beautiful
its not harder to learn without knowing arabic but i think its better

I would say memorizing any language that you don’t know very well is hard.

Yes, learning to read and memorize something in a language you don’t speak is much harder than reading it and memorizing it in your own language.
I hope the Imam is making sure you understand what it is that you’re reading and memorizing.

naaah…. thousands of children in Pakistan & India memorize Quran at very young age. Regardless of the fact that they do not understand Arabic at all.
Arabic is the most easiest language to learn!
