    Assalamu Alaikum
Thank you for asking a very good question.

The answer is, No, it would not be the same. However, there is still a chance for great rewards with Allah and there are some things you can do as well, Insha’ Allah.

Reading from books in other languages is not the same as reading in Arabic. However, there is still reward for you, Insha’ Allah.

Difficulty in reciting the Arabic is rewarded double for the one who is not an Arab speaker.

You can rise up early every morning before fajr and begin to recite a little at a time, step by step while you are learning. Make sure to continue this from now on, as this was definitely a part of the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

Take your time and be patient with yourself. It takes time, effort and practice to become a real reciter of Quran.

There is a dua (supplication) in the Quran for gaining knowledge and we always suggest it to those who want to gain more knowledge. We have to understand all knowledge only comes from Allah.

"Rabbi, ziddni ‘ilma. Rabbi, ziddni ‘ilma." (My Lord, increase my knowledge. My Lord, increase my knowledge."

Check out a new website for learning the Arabic language while using the English language to make it happen even quicker.

It is always a good deed to read the Qur’aan in any language provided that you are reading it with meaning and are trying to understand it.

Try this; all 114 Surahs you can listen to in arabic with the translation:

no! if you read it in english, you are only reading the translation. the Quran comes in Arabic, that is how it was sent down to Muhammad (asws)

it doesnt really count if you read it in english, it is only the translation.

"I know in prayer only arabic is accepted"

Jesus said that God knows the prayers of our hearts before we even speak them – even if we can’t come up with the words to say, he knows our hearts and he understands. He said we shouldn’t pray long showy prayers like pagans thinking that God will hear us if we spew many words at him.

You should read the Qur’an in the Arabic language it was revealed, as it is a mercy and a cure for mankind. Every letter you read of the Holy Qur’an you get rewarded.

Reading a good translation of the Qur’an and contemplating upon the meanings will increase your knowledge about Islam inshallah, and hopefully will produce good deed and actions causing you to earn rewards and pleasure of Allah, Inshallah.

Im afraid that if you want to read Quran as doing a worship (Tilawa), you have to read it in Arabic. "We sent it down Arabic".

but if you want to increase your knowledge or to know the Tafseer you can read it in English.

Reading the Quran to understand its meaning is like gaining knowledge, which is an act of merit.

However reading the Quran in the form of the actual kitab or script in arabic is far more beneficial, even if you do not know the meaning.

Allah rewards a person for every letter of the recitation of the Quran. that is alif, lam, mim, are three letters.

If good deeds are limited to a certain language, I’d find a new God…that one’s being prejudiced.

    alright. hold it.

"Reading the Quran to understand its meaning is like gaining knowledge, which is an act of merit.

However reading the Quran in the form of the actual kitab or script in arabic is far more beneficial, even if you do not know the meaning."

i’m generally a very civil person, and i know as a muslim it is my duty to be so, but i’m slowly running out of patience. not just because mere thinking like this makes practicing faith harder, but because it reflects badly on Allah (na’oozubillah). do you know how Allah speaks of Himself in the Quran? how he is Kind, Just, and Fair? how HHe values "those who reflect". do you know that Islam is the religion of reason, the religion that commands your everyday life, that commands your heart? the religion that was sent to all of mankind. my primary language might be english, but i strive to learn Arabic merely because i was to read the original Quran and understand it from there. but for everyone who cannot afford such a venture, simple reasoning tells me reading the Quran WITH meaning (translation) carries FAR more reward than reciting it in a language you do not understand. the Quran is guidance, and guidance cannot be made use of unless you know what you are reading.

please, do not make Allah look unfair, and do not ascribe things to Islam that are merely subjective opinions of those who did not understand the importance of the Message. it is shameful, how some houses have a Quran that lies somewhere on the top shelf, gathering dust. it is shameful, how in some houses there is no emphasis at ALL on reading what it really says, and the focus is merely on the Arabic. the Quran is meant to be used..so use it. peace.
